BIOEMIT newsletter, March 2005

Dear project participant and "friend" of BIOEMIT,

The aim of this BIOEMIT newsletter is to remind you about our upcoming BIOEMIT project meeting on April 14, inform you about upcoming events in 2005, and point you to interesting reading!

  • BIOEMIT 2005 project meeting: On thursday April 14, 14.15-16.00 hrs., our second 2005 BIOEMIT project meeting will be held in room 1329 (old cantina), 13th floor, Sentralbygg II, Gløshaugen.

"Tverrfaglighet: erfaringer og fremtidsscenarier knyttet til funksjonell genomforskning og BIOEMIT".

We will discuss different topics, and we are working on finalising the program. Tentatively we start with focus on cross-disciplinarity and "one campus". Astrid Lægreid is member of Hestnesutvalget, and will give us an introduction to the work in Hestnesutvalget - which we then will discuss. We will close by looking to the future of BIOEMIT, and Atle Bones will inform us on the work on the topic FOOD.

The final program will be available in the start of April, and will be announced in the April newsletter from BIOEMIT!

  • Upcoming events in 2005:
    • Turn on Newton on Sunday March 21, where the title of the programme is "Flaks eller uflaks", and probability and statistics will be the focus!
    • Bioinformatics for Proteomics course April 11-14 arranged by CBU and PROBE (Proteomics unit in Bergen) www.probe.uib.no. Registration before March 21 2005.
    • April 13: Program for Bioinformatikk at NTNU will arrange a students seminar. More information will be linked in from the BIOEMIT www-pages when available.
    • European Science Foundation: "ESF School in Microarray technology and Data analysis" will take place at NTNU on May 23-May 27, 2005. The lectures will be open to the public. The lectures on Monday 23, afternoon of Thursday May 26 and moring of Friday May 27 are of special interest to BIOEMIT researchers! A ESF www-page has been set up, where you can register for the course and look at the program for the course.
  • Interesting reading:
    • ERCIM News, in January 2005 the topic was Biomedicine.
    • The new crime novel by Tore Oksholen (research journalist in Trondheim), "En rik høst", addresses many interesting aspects of functional genomics research and cross-disciplinary interactions. Available at Tapir - and maybe suited for Easter reading? Read what Dagsavisen and Adressa wrote about the book!

    Sincerely,
    Mette Langaas
